a number of vital services to fulfill our mission to help people prevent,
prepare for and respond to emergencies. They Include: 24 Hour Disaster Relief,
Health and Safety Education Classes, Emergency Services for U.S. Servicemen and
women and their families, Community Disaster Preparedness and Education,
International Tracing and Social Services, and Volunteer Recruitment to Staff
these programs."

Hi
Tim,
Although it may seem like a long time away, our auction co-chairs
Julian Rich and Sheryl Meehan have been working behind the scenes putting
committees together and gearing up for the official "auction kick off." The 12th
Annual Rotary Auction will be held Wednesday, April 18th on TV22 and Friday,
April 20th at the Haverhill Country Club for the silent/live auction event.
There has been a call from our members and other in the community to return to
the TV auction for at least a portion of our fundraiser. For those of us who
have worked the TV auction before, we know how much fun and rewarding it was.
For the newer members, I encourage you to get involved. Haverhill Community
Television is offering studio training to all Rotarians who would like to learn
how to operate a camera and/or work in the control room during the event. Please
contact me if you'd like to offer your service in the studio.
The
organizers are counting down to the Tom Vartabedian Honorary Breakfast. Tickets
to the January 23rd breakfast are $25.00. Haverhill Rotary is a sponsor of the
event along with other local service organizations. The event will be counted as
a Rotary make-up for those of you in need of a make-up. See Ken Smith for
tickets.
Last week we welcomed Kick Fallon, Executive Director of the
Haverhill YWCA as our newest Rotarian.
Until next time,

weekends spent with daughter #1 and daughter #2. Too bad he and Donna didn't
have triplets.

Program Highlights
Today's
speaker was Jay Foley, Development Director at Merrimack Valley Red Cross. Jay
is one of a staff of 7 at the Red Cross Chapter. Jay was in the private sector
and found himself volunteering after the Katrina disaster in New Orleans with
Red Cross Relief.
Jay was one of 175 Red Cross volunteers of all shapes,
sizes and backgrounds in his assigned area in New Orleans.
Upon his
return from New Orleans, he thought about changing his career to a position with
the Red Cross.
Red Cross local disaster relief is primarily for fires and
fire victims. The Red Cross relies upon volunteers to work and assist with
victims. In the recent Georgetown apartment fire, Red Cross set up a service
center at Georgetown High School, to provide services and assistance, including
counseling and support services.
Red Cross also provided traditional life
saving CPR training to 26,000 people in the Merrimack Valley. There is also an
Armed Forces emergency services component as Red Cross representatives deal with
servicemen and women and their families.
Internationally, Red Cross has
been involved with the inoculation of children for measles in Africa and
elsewhere.
The Red Cross Gala will be March 29 at the Doubletree Hotel in
Lowell. All are welcome. Our thanks to Jay for his presentation.
