Village Help for South Sudan

Village Help for South Sudan is looking for ways to reach out to the public and raise awareness of the urgent needs of people in south Sudan villages who are slowly rebounding from more than 2 decades of civil war with northern Sudan. The situation is fragile as the signing of the peace agreement 2 years ago has put pressure on refugees living in neighboring countries to return to their home regions in south Sudan. Unfortunately, the basic infrastructure and opportunities to sustain life in south Sudan lag way behind the enormous population increases in some areas. The village we are supporting, for example, had 300 - 400 students when we started the project a year ago, but now this group has grown to more than 1,000.

Franco Majok and Ron Moulton traveled to the village of Wunlang last November, and are planning to return with another colleague at the end of this year's rainy season in late October. They have an interesting, timely, and important story to tell about their team, the project, and the brave citizens of Wunlang who are so patient and yet so severely lacking in everything we take for granted in our comfortable homes and villages here in the United States. Frank will be our speaker this week. You can check out their web site at http://helpwunlang.org.
