Hello Tim,
Here 'N There

Belated Mother's Day advice: Sooner or later, we all quote our
mothers.
Happy 50th wedding anniversary to Tudy Davis on her
good choice of a husband.
Congratulations to Scott Cote on
his well deserved honor as recipient of the Yankee Clipper Boy Scout
Council Distinguished Citizen Award.
Program
Highlights
Kiwanian Kara Kosmes pinch hit for
Raleigh Buchanan and presented two speakers from Haverhill High
School.
Debbie Sasso Flanagan addressed us on a new old
concept of a Classical Academy at Haverhill High. Haverhill has two
Latin teachers and 3 levels of Classical Greek studies. Haverhill is
only 1 of 2 schools in the state teaching Latin and Classical Greek.
The Classical Academy is the result of a plan based on Classical
education. This is an entrance exam school within Haverhill High.
The classes cover arts and sciences and all
disciplines.
Latin is the basis of the English language, and
is the focus of the Classical academy. Et tu, Brutus?
Bernie
Nangle, HHS principal, addressed us on the textbook purchase
project. $28,000 has been raised to date. Books are expensive. The
School Department has a $450,000.00 commitment for textbooks. There
are old, outdated textbooks that need to be
replaced.
Educational needs and technology require that
schools keep up and ahead of the new developments in education.
