Hart
Delivers ‘Swan Song’ with Heart!
President’s
Message
By Mike Hart
President
Mike Hart delivered the following poetic Swan Song at last week’s
meeting:
The day finally
arrived, your leader I became, I admit I was somewhat hesitant;
Was I up to the job, could I serve the twelve months, as your
new Rotary president;
I had a rocky
start that didn’t
bode well when I cut my last class at PETS;
Asst. Governor Terri called me to say she hoped my club wouldn’t
have regrets;
Following
Cindy was hard indeed because she had set the bar so high;
The only hope that I had to keep up her pace was to work really
hard and lie;
For our first
fall event we wanted a night that was fun yet not too hokey;
After seeing Cindy perform at a district event I decided
on karaoke;
The spirits
flowed, the off key singing began and we made a lot of moola;
Jeff showed us his chest, Ken grinded his hips and your
president did the hula;
Each week
we did meet to garther and share camaraderie and fine dining;
What I enjoyed most was being the host and deciding who
I’d
be fining
My fining
had rules I constantly enforced until it was glaringly evident;
Only a fool
would rise, attempt to be cute and suggest that I fine the
president;
Community
meals, dictionaries for kids, it seems Rotarians were everywhere;
Reading to tots, donating a lot, it seems Rotarians really do
care;
A committee
was formed for our auction event; they knew they couldn’t
be late;
Led by Ira and Julian, Sheryl, Scott, Pam and John, the
event they planned was great;
I always disliked when I sat
out there and heard speeches that lasted too long;
So I think at this time I’ll wrap this thing up and finally
conclude my swan song;
In my year
I had fun, it was a great run, I just hope I wasn’t
to mean;
She helped me a lot, a great new leader you’ve
got, I present new President Darlene.
President
Mike

Program Highlights

The traditional
Rotary swan song was by outgoing President Mike Hart. Mike acknowledged
his success as president to those members who answered “yes” to
every request he made of them.
Mike noted
that he was sandwiched by two effective individuals, past President
Cindy Ryan and new
President Darlene Beal. Mike’s
ode to his year waxed poetic about the highlights of his year,
karaoke, community meals, dictionaries for kids and the auction.
Mike presented Darlene Beal with her president’s pin and
gavel. President “elect”
Darlene Beal
presented some of her goals and club goals for the year ahead,
including a Rotary
Interact club at the high school
and student exchange involvement. President Darlene is open
to ideas and suggestions of ways to participate in and serve
the community.

A
Haverhill Rotary first—three PHF’s at one
meeting. One PHF to the pretty Hart fella, one PHF
to Jim Vanderpool, also a pretty fellow, and one PHF
to Scott Cote, much to his surprise.
All
of these fellows are most deserving and great examples
of service above
self.
We were also graced by the presence of Rotary Ann’s.
We
thank President Mike for his leadership and example
and the fun and fines he led throughout the year.
