Our Newest Paul Harris Fellow
A well deserved congratulations to our newest Paul Harris Fellow,
Pam Carr. Pam's work as club secretary and on the auction is another
one of those little known to the general membership, but immensely
important contributions to the smooth operation and well being of
the club. Thank you Pam for your willingness to take on these
responsibilities.

Hi Tim,
It was wonderful to have Stanley Narsice join us
along with Barbara Hidlt on Thursday to talk about youth
empowerment. Stanley certainly sets a great example for other youth
to follow. He has all the qualities of a future Rotarian.
As
I write this, Mary Gale and I are putting the final touches to our
Youth Exchange Host Family Information night. We hope to identify
our first host family very soon. Again, if you know of a friend,
neighbor, coworker etc... who wants to learn more about opening
their home for a short three month period to an exchange student,
please send them our way!
The Haverhill Gazette, "Best
Places" survey has hit the stands! There is a question in the survey
asking: What is the best service club in Haverhill? We all know the
answer... ROTARY! This is our year to win the title of BEST Service
Club. We can do it if we all fill out the form and send it back to
the Gazette by June 15. Time is running out!
Until next
time, President Darlene
Here 'N There

Charlie Boulay is "somewhere out there" on a cross country
trip over the next several weeks in the wild areas where there
aren't any Rotary Clubs, nearby.
"It has been 27 days and we have seen things beyond our
wildest imagination our country has so many interesting sites to
see. So far we have visited 10 national parks or monuments and
played a few rounds of golf with more of both to come. Right now we
are in California soon to be heading towards Yellowstone unless we
get sidetracked. Having a wonderfull time wish you all well see
you all soon. -Charlie Boulé "
Vin Bonanno, President Elect is working on a new level of "oops"
dollars contributions.
Why is it that a fat chance and a slim
chance are the same thing?
Thanks and congratulations to John
Jameson and General Ulysses Grant on John's 40 years of perfect
attendance.
We note the passing of Edmund "Ted" Miller of
West Newbury who passed away at age 89. Ted was a talented noted
artist cartoonist who sketched a Rotary "mugbook" 40 plus years ago,
which is a classic.
Program
Highlights
Barbara Hildt of Amesbury and Stanley Narcisse spoke on the VIP
program designed to encourage leadership training and violence
prevention by good example.
Stanley came to Haverhill as a
junior from Cambridge. He just graduated from Haverhill High School.
Stanley joined the HIP-Violence intervention program. He has
benefited from his involvement with the program.
The peace
initiative is designed to encourage youth not to follow the paths of
violence that is so tempting and available to young men and women.
It extends to tutoring and mentoring both at the high school and the
middle schools such as Consentino.
There are about 40
students participating in the VIP program.
There are mature
student leaders and role models at Haverhill
High.
*****
Rabbi Ira Korinow, exemplifying service
above self, filled in as the previous week's speaker. He updated us
on the Haverhill Civil Rights Commission activities. Haverhill will
be recognized as a No Place For Hate Community at a ceremony in
Boston.
The multicultural peace dinner was held at Pentucket
Bank's community room last Wednesday evening featuring international
foods from local restaurants and purveyors.
The Civil Rights
Commission was established in 1990 in response to an incident at
that time.
This is a strong diverse community. There is a
high school "STOP Program" devoted to the opposition of
prejudice.
There are hate groups and supremacy organizations
that still distribute flyers and other offensive influences around
here.
Special thanks for the anonymous donation of our new Rotary logo
sign for the podium.
