Meetings
at Whittier & Winnekenni Fun
President’s
Message
By Darlene Beal
Thank you
all for showing confidence in me as your president. I appreciate
the support that so many have given and continue to give. We
truly have a great club!
Special thanks
to Renee Harlow for hosting our meeting at Whittier’s
Birthplace in June and giving us a great tour of the property.
Thanks also to Vince Bonnano for making the arrangements with
Renee and making sure the food arrived! In July the club met
at Winnekinni
Castle and got a good look at our Centennial sign project. Thanks
to Ken Smith for making all the arrangements with the Winnekinni
folks. August takes us right into classification talks. We are
fortunate to have had seven new members join our club last year.
I look forward to hearing their talks in the weeks ahead.
If you
have a program idea or interesting speaker, please contact
Vince Bonnano. I know from experience that scheduling speakers
can be a tough job.
Pam Carr has
asked that if you believe you have or are close to having 100%
attendance for last year to
please check with
her soon.
DG Donna Wayman
recently passed along a piece of information that Rotary Foundation
has received a 4-STAR (out
of 4) rating
from
Charity Navigator, America's largest independent evaluator
of charities. This is quite a high honor and one that all
Rotarians can be proud
as we Lead the Way into the 2006-2007 Rotary year.
Until
next time,
President Darlene

Opportunity
Works Evolves to Meet Need
Program Highlights
By
Joe Cleary
Opportunity Works serves more than 150 people including those
in the Haverhill area. It provides production services to help
job development, job placement and job support.
Many of the people

state schools and hospitals for physically and mentally
disabled individuals. Today the services are available to persons
suffering from conditions such as autism, mental retardation
and other developmental disabilities. Opportunity works helps the
individuals
and helps change the attitudes towards individuals who are handicapped
or disabled.
The employment support program teaches basic work
schools, employment, vocational training skills and a work ethic.
Opportunity Works
provide3d services to 80 local businesses last year.

Red
Ribbon Means Singing the Blues
Here ‘n’ There
By
Joe Cleary
There
is a red ribbon for a “blue” service club
based on a local vote on the best service club in a
local newspaper.
Our
acting Sergeant at Arms collected a bundle today, which
should concern our Sgt. At Arms,
Buddy Baker.
Don Beaton’s follow through was prominently displayed
in today’s newspaper, just so that his grandson
Tom doesn’t get all the newspaper photo publicity.
International
traveler Don Laing hit China and South Paris this
weekend all in the state of Maine. The Red
Sox’ back to back 1-0 shut outs were repeated
in the early nineteen hundreds by a young Boston pitcher
named Ruth.

Rotary
Year 2006-2007 is the best Deal! The birthday cake
returns. Is the cribbage
board and game next
or is it the four way test sign?
Today,
July 13th was the lucky and deserving day for the many
local
charities that Haverhill Rotary
contributed
to from the many dollars donated throughout
the course of the year. Happily our coffers are empty
as we
start every year.
