President’s Message

Fellow Rotarians,

Last Wednesday I had the distinct privilege to visit Heather Cote’s Discovery Class made up of students from grades 1 through 3 at the Tilton School. These ambitious children are embarking on what they call a service-learning project. As I listened to their plans to create a “Quiet Area” at the playground for the nearby Consentino school as a place where they could relax away from the hustle and bustle of the usual recess games, I realized that I had in my midst, potentially a group of future Rotarians- six, seven, and eight year olds who were already figuring our Service Above Self. As a part of this project we will donate funds to help create this garden retreat with the construction of a bench as a centerpiece of this creation.

At last Thursday’s meeting we presented Bernie Clohisy with a Community Service Award in recognition of the outstanding work he has performed for countless years as the organizer of our community meals volunteer program at the Senior Center. It is through Bernie’s tireless efforts that we as Rotarians are able to experience first hand, the intangible rewards of giving something tangible to those less fortunate within our own community.

Speaker: Our own John Cuneo filled in for his colleague Kerry Perry in talking about the Working Cities Challenge grant, which has awarded $475,000, to help the city revitalize the Mt. Washington district in Haverhill.

Visitors: Andrew, an HHS incoming senior, is interning at the Haverhill Chamber and was Stacey’s guest.

Happy $$$ were given by:

John Cuneo in appreciation of Greg DiBurro’s humor

Scott for Art’s participation in daughter Heather’s Discovery class

Michel because he likes the buffet

Terry for Bernie’s kind words for the late Don Beaton

Rick because his 88 year old mother has fully recuperated from her broken hip.

John Jameson because he was not here for the microburst

$10 to get Art to stop reciting his list of puns!

Cake and Candle! Happy Birthday to Melissa- she gave 37 Happy Dollars in recognition of her 37th year.

Greg DiBurro won the raffle but left the jackpot intact.

Thursday's Speaker: Noah Koretz of Mass Development will speak about the ongoing Merrimack Street Revitalization Project. I have listened to Noah’s presentation before and he is very informative so you do not want to miss this one.
