President’s Message

Fellow Rotarians,

Anyone 25 years or older remembers exactly where they were fifteen years ago September 11. Like a lot of people around here I was at work when I first saw the news and I assumed a small aircraft had gone off course and somehow struck one of the Twin Towers. I remember remarking to one of my colleagues that I had been there just a few months earlier when we took or two kids to dinner at Widows on the World. Then another plane slammed into the second World Trade Center Tower and our world, as we knew it, changed forever. I thought of all these things Sunday morning as I attended the 911 memorial Service and Dedication at the Firefighting Museum at the old Armory. I also realized that the local firefighters, EMTs and police officers in attendance risk their lives every single day that they put on the uniform and head to work. Think about that; first responders some of whom we may know others complete strangers, prepare themselves every day to protect you and me, our property, our way of life.  I was glad to be in attendance with several other Rotarians Sunday morning and I felt some measure of pride when I looked down at the brick walkway that surrounds the new Memorial Sculpture and spied our memorial brick. It says simply: Rotary Club – Service Above Self. What an apt maxim for the men and women who serve and protect our community.

Happy $$$:

Jeannie $5 for community service

Dick $5 to kill time

Bernie because everything at his check up came up fine!

Harry for being late

And finally Buddy threw in $5 to bring an end to President Arturo’s lame puns.

Speaker: Peggy Connolly – Here For You gave us an excellent overview of the company that she founded to provide elder care services throughout the Merrimack Valley. A vigorous Q&A followed which always means an interesting presentation.

Next week’s speaker: State Representative Cory Atkins

Harry was awarded the Happy $$$ Prize

Raffle: Linda from the wait staff had the win

Caught in the act of Service Above Self.

Here is a good example of Rotary at his best!  The Haverhill Rotary President Arthur Hale Veasey III helping a lady with a walker stay dry while everybody else ran for shelter when it started to down poor at the 911 Memorial Service and Dedication this past Sunday.
