President’s Message

Dear reader:,

WEATHER ALERT!  Reminder on Rotary weather-related cancellations.  If there is no school in Haverhill, there will be no Rotary meeting.

The Polar Plunge was a great success!

Thank you  Tom Faulkner, Jim Traver, Jim Smith, Melissa Cerasuolo and Steve Bowen for Freezing for a Reason and  Congratulations guys for raising $ 1,500.00 !     These brave souls plunged in the frigid water of the Atlantic on January 23rd in Glouster.  This year was the 6th annual Polar plunge, which took place at 11:15 am with an air temperature of 29 degrees in 6-8 foot waves and winds of about 35 mph. The water temperature was rumored to be 42 degrees.  Here is a picture of our mascot me LISSA the Loco Lobster.

It’s time to recruit a few Rotarians (2-3) to help renew our “Welcome to Haverhill” signs.  There are six spread across the city at major roadway entrances.  Two are in pretty good shape; four need more work.

Dave Arel of Kiwanis is taking the lead and inviting each club to assist.  It will begin later this month with each club contributing a few members.  A small group representing all 6 clubs will go out for 2+ hours to survey the signs and decide what needs to be done with each.  Dave has worked with the Sign Center and done some initial pricing which came in at $100 – $700 / club, depending on how extensive the clubs agree on what is needed.   Some additional pricing is in process now based on some additional suggestions.  Each club’s team may be in for some scrubbing, washing, painting and possibly a bit of light carpentry.  The goal is to get this done by sometime in April so that the sign renewal will be all done before the Garden Club plants flowers around the signs.  Arel is looking for a team coordinator and 1-2 additional members from each club.  Interested Rotarians should call or email you to participate.

The Haverhill Country Club will be closed for the month of February!

Jean Poth was able to secure the Hartleb Technology Center building at NECC (conference Room TC103A) from 12:00 PM until 1:30 PM for the first 3 Thursday’s of the month with great speakers.

February 4: President Lane Glenn, NECC

February 11: John Chemaly, Trinity EMS

February 18: Tom Fleming, Director, NECC Police Academy

Luncheon will be catered by Lakeview Kitchen of Bradford.

Maureen Lynch, Witthier Tech superintendent invited the club to the Poet’s Inn for the last Thursday of February.  That is February 24, 2016.  This meeting will start at 11:30 am.

Proposed Member: Maureen Lynch, Witthier Tech superintendent
