Rubber Duck Regatta Fundraiser Co-chairs, Sheryl and Diane, and I met with Chamber of Commerce staff and Haverhill Police representatives. We learned that the Chamber wants Kidsfest to stay at its early May date in order to avoid conflicts with graduations, Mother's Day and to have a rain date later in May. We confirmed that from a Police perspective, there should be no major problem dropping the ducks from the Comeau bridge. Next, we hope to meet with Crescent Yacht Club representatives.
At last week's lunch I began handing out to fundraiser committee co-chairs the CD with the various manuals that detail all aspects of the duck race. The manuals also provide great suggestions! Sheryl, Diane and I would like all Committee Co-chairs to join us this week right after lunch for a short Rubber Duck Regatta fundraiser meeting. Please join us if you can. Let's get quackin!
Ana Gogua, our Rotary Youth Exchange student from Georgia, has settled in nicely at our house. Are you going on a family outing where she could accompany you to a museum, sports event or the like? She's very curious, loves meeting people, seeks new places to visit to learn more about our country and our culture and to share about hers. Let me know if you'd like to invite her along with you. Also, Mary Gale seeks three club members to join her Youth Exchange team to help support, recruit and review candidates and host families. Contact her if you are interested in helping out: megale_99@yahoo.com
Non-profit executives and board members: Please think about service activities that might engage your fellow Rotarians. Now that we are established at the Fox Center, at Community Action we are thinking about offering Rotary Readers again in the Head Start classrooms. But surely there are more opportunities for Rotary members to serve in our community. Let us know how we can help you serve the community!
Your Haverhill Rotary Board will meet this Wednesday night at 5:00 PM. We now enjoy a light supper together at the start of each meeting. Last month it was spaghetti and salad. This month will be Chinese take-out (or bring-in!). I wonder what it will be next month...
See you Thursday!

Even Number Phobia
In my first years at the telephone company I did installation work in the residence section. One day, among my orders, was a job on Seven Star Road in Groveland. When I had arrived and parked I went to the door. A lady answered and I explained that I was there to install her phone.
She said: "Before I let you in, tell me what the telephone number will be."
I looked at the order and read off the telephone number which was a mix of numbers. To which she replied: "Get out of here." I, of course, asked what was wrong. She replied, "I have a phobia about even numbers, if you can't give me all odd numbers then I don't want the phone."
So I went back to the truck and got my climbing gear and climbed up the pole and tapped into a line and called the Line Assigner Office. They reassigned the order for the Groveland / Haverhill area with a telephone number using all odd numbers.
The lady accepted that and allowed me to complete the job.
Arithmophobia or Numerophobia is the fear of numbers. Get help here.
Speakers

Larry Olasky spoke to us last week about how the Haverhill Trails Committee identifies and maintains recreational trails throughout Haverhill. The committee has published a guide which is for sale at the cost of $10.00 each. If you picked up a guide last week and did not pay please bring in your money on Thursday.
