President's Message
Dear Rotarians,
I want to thank Julian for filling in for me at last Thursday's meeting. I'm back from a convention in Toronto (I know it's out of the country) and look forward to being with you again this week.
Guided by Phil Brown, we have a great Interact Club at Haverhill High School. All the student visitors to our club this year are members of the Haverhill High Interact Club. We have seen and heard from some remarkable young people who enjoy being involved in the work of their club.
You would be amazed to see the incredible impact Interact Clubs have on our young people. On the Rotary International web page, there are short videos that show how much an Interact Club can provide ideals for community service and be a model for leadership in the community. I highly recommend taking a look at the winning video posted at the top of the home page of Rotary International. It won the first annual Rotary International prize for an Interact video. Rotary International can be found on the Internet at: www.rotary.org
We can take much pride in being part of an organization which helps nurture young people to become leaders in the future, whether it is in communities in third world countries or right here in Haverhill. When our student guests are present at our Thursday meetings, welcome them and ask why they joined the Interact Club at Haverhill High. You may be surprised at how much they respect YOU as a Rotarian!
Rotarily Yours,
Ira

If the Haverhill Public Schools are cancelled due to inclement winter weather, there will be no Rotary meeting that day. Also, if there is an early dismissal, there will be no Rotary meeting that day.
If there is a delayed opening of the Haverhill Public Schools, there will be a Rotary meeting at the regular time, at 12:15 PM.
Father John Finn
Father Finn of St. James Church in Haverhill , Massachusetts was a member of the Haverhill Rotary Club.
Fred Mac Donald , also a member of the club, was on the Board of Deacons at the Atkinson, New Hampshire Congregational Church. The Minister of the Atkinson church was going to be away and the board was making plans to fill the pulpit.
It was suggested that perhaps we could invite a Roman Catholic Priest to speak to us one Sunday. I was asked if I knew a Priest that might come to our church for that Sunday. I immediately thought of Father Finn from the Rotary Club.
He accepted our invitation to come to Atkinson.
He asked that I help him with the service by being in the pulpit area with him, to call for the collection, to announce the hymns to be sung and make any announcements for the week. As you might imagine he gave us a wonderful Ecumenical service.
So now dear reader I ask; "Having assisted a Catholic Priest at a Protestant church, could I now be considered to be the first Protestant Altar Boy?"
