The board meets Wednesday night. We hope to develop a bit more process regarding how the Board receives and responds to requests for funding, from small requests to capital requests.

Sheryl and I are excited to be back from Duck racer Training in Tampa. Probably the single most important thing we learned is not rocket science. The logistics of the duck race itself, dropping ducks in the water, racing them and getting them back out is the easy part that everybody manages to do one way or another, and there are in fact many ways this is accomplished. The most important part of the event is sales and marketing.

With this in mind, we want to get a quick start. We have requested that Quacky, the 12' inflatable duck character with sunglasses, join us for the VFW Santa Parade and for the Christmas Stroll. Thousands of area residents will get their first look at Quacky and get early notice of the duck race.

All hands on deck!

Are you good with a hammer, other tools, painting and/or other crafts? Know anything about building floats for a parade? Call me ASAP 978 994 2214. We are at work building a simple Quacky float for the parade. Also, Quacky stays inflated with a blower that needs electricity. Anybody have access to a generator they can loan for a few hours on Nov. 23rd or Dec. 7th? Call me ASAP 978 994 2214.

We have also requested the Quacky costume for some fine Rotarians to wear at the parade ... walking alongside the giant Quacky in half-hour shifts. We'd like some other volunteers also to walk alongside the float, giving out children's tatoos of Quacky, perhaps candy, and also flyers about the coming duck race. Are you willing to wear the Quacky costume (Come on, Vin, you said you'd do it)? Or would you be willing to walk with us in regular dress? Call me ASAP 978 994 2214. The parade starts this coming Sunday, the 23rd, at about 1 PM from Hunking School. Can you help? Please join us. For some, the whole parade may be too long a walk. If you can only walk part way, that's cool. We can work with that, placing some walkers early and others later on. Call me ASAP 978 994 2214.

Also, please reserve an hour or more to help us have a presence at the Christmas Stroll downtown on Sunday, Dec 7th. Again, we'll publicize Quacky and the duck race, but we also want to publicize the Club and membership.

I'm thrilled to inform you that Sheryl Meehan has agreed to join Diane Franz as co-chair of the duck race. More about all this very soon.

On another note, I want to thank Jim Vanderpol and Michel Van Ravestyn for being willing to photograph Jim reading to young children for our club's entry in the District PR campaign.

Wasn't Zion Bible College President Charles Crabtree's quick response to Fred MacDonald's harassment just terrific? Thanks for challenging him, Fred!

Thanks for all that you do. See you Thursday!

John

Mittens and Gloves

Ruth Acorn of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada is Fred' cousin and a retired school teacher. Ruth likes to knit and for a few years now, ever since she found out about the Rotary Club mitten collection that is done each year, she makes a couple of pair for our collection.
THANK YOU Ruth.

We are still collecting gloves, mittens and hats for children and youth of all ages. Please bring your donation to the next Rotary meetings. Ken Smith will take care of getting them to this year's Christmas Castle run by the Salvation Army.

Who Has Season Tickets to the Celtics?

If you know the answer please ask that person for some tickets for our raffle. Make a call today and let Julian Rich or Chuck Marvin know what you can get your hands on. This project will benefit Haverhill Charities.
