Community Meals Tonight

David Shaw, Bernie Clohisy and Terry Beaton are getting ready to serve Community Meals at the Citizen's Center and they need your help tonight. Show up with your desserts between 4:00 and 4:30 PM. The ladies who are always there to help will cut up your cakes and pies so they are ready to serve with dinner at 5:00 PM. Arrive around 4:30 PM to assist in serving the meal. There will also be opportunities to help with the clean up. Come and share your Thanksgiving Rotary Spirit tonight at the Citizen's Center. You will be rewarded. "...He profits most who serves the best."

Reminder! Community Meals tonight! Don't forget! As Bernie has reminded us all recently, we need all hands on deck to make sure this goes well. It's Thanksgiving week, truly a time of service above self. Imagine having no home to which to go, or having little or no food with which to celebrate and for which to give thanks!
The following Rotarians are suppose to bring desserts: Nancy Adams,Fred Battistini, Raleigh Buchanan, Ed Cote, Greg DiBurro, Kick Fallon, Joan Hull, Ira Korinow, Harry Korslund, Charlene LaPrel, Chuck Marvin, Sheryl Meehan, Bonnie Michaleas, Jeanine Murphy, Frank Novak, Jean Poth, Dale Rogers, Dave Shaw,
Greg Stark, Jr., and Chuck Traver. Remember, if you can't be there, please give a few dollars to someone you know who can and ask them to pick up something, or do it yourself and give it to a fellow Rotarian who will be there.
No meeting this week. I hope you will be enjoying time with your families!
Calling all Past Presidents! The special annual meeting of all Past Presidents will occur at 1:30 PM sharp, right after our next lunch, Thursday, December 4th. Please put it on your calendar.
Sunday, Haverhill Rotary Club moved a step closer to its first Duck Race on the Merrimack. Quacky, the inflatable 12' duck and his partner, Quacky the costume, debuted at the VFW Santa Parade. Although many may have wondered what these two ducks were about, certainly they saw them and we began the process of establishing the duck race in the minds of the residents of Haverhill and surrounding cities and towns. I have to say that club member Michel vanRavestyn, the fellow in the costume version of Quacky, was a complete hit! What came over the man when he put the costume on, I do not know. He was transformed! He endeared himself to everyone, young and old, spectator and parade participant. You have to see him to believe! It is utterly amazing!

Michel and his 12' inflated buddy made it through the parade due to the help of the following Rotarians and others:
A huge thanks to all of you! Vin Bonanno, Diane Franz, John Hamel, Sheryl Meehan, Frank Novak, Richard and Betty Rogers, Megan Shea, Greg Stark, Jr., Dennis Sweeney, Brian Theirrien, Sharon Silverman and their group of 6-8 boys from the Boys and Girls Club. Alan LaBranche also helped by printing up flyers for today and for the upcoming Christmas Stroll, where Quacky Big and Little will make their second Haverhill appearance before they fly south for the winter. Haverhill Rotary will have a table at the Stroll, on Sunday Dec. 7th, to continue early publicity on the duck race and about the Haverhill Rotary Club. Please save some time that afternoon for Rotary. We will need volunteers to "person" our table and to "be" little Quacky. Michel will be busy in his store, downtown and nearby, selling his wares and services, including pictures with Santa. I hope you can be there to help the Club.
Please remember also to save some time to volunteer for bell ringing for the Salvation Army the weekend of Dec. 20th. Ken Smith will have sign-up sheets at our next club meeting, December 4th.
Until then, Happy Thanksgiving!
If I missed anyone, please forgive!
John
Mittens and Gloves

We are still collecting gloves, mittens and hats for children and youth of all ages. Please bring your donation to the next Rotary meetings. Ken Smith will take care of getting them to this year's Christmas Castle run by the Salvation Army.
Who Has Season Tickets to the Celtics?

If you know the answer please ask that person for some tickets for our raffle. Make a call today and let Julian Rich or Chuck Marvin know what you can get your hands on. This project will benefit Haverhill Charities.

Roast Rabbi
Rotarian and Rabbi Ira Korinow had recently received his Doctorate and has been a Rabbi for more than twenty five years. Not long ago a Roast was planned for him at the Haverhill Temple. So I sent in for tickets for Martha and me.
Some time had gone by and we received a call from the Vice President of the Temple. He noted that we wished to come to the Roast and told us that tickets would not be required. "But we have a problem, we don't have anyone to roast the Rabbi" and then a pause. "Do you want to roast the Rabbi?" Thinking hardly any time at all I said "Yes"
Finally the night was here and it was my turn to go to the stage. Full of lies, the first thing that I noted was that when I came in, two ladies of the Temple were talking and looking at me. One of them asked the other: "Who's this guy coming in here, he looks like a Schlemiel"
To which the other one replied: "To me he looks like a Nudnik"
As I got near the ladies I said; "You're both wrong I'm a Congregationalist!"
I then noted that a great honor can come to a young person at the Temple. A Bar Mitzvah for a boy or a Bat Mitzvah for a girl. I asked Rabbi Korinow what would be required to receive such an honor. He explained that the person must have attained the age of 13. "I'm past that", I noted.
He went on to say that they must be willing to study Hebrew. "I'm willing, I'm willing" I said.
"In your case it could also require a little operation", he said. "A little operation.", I said. "What could it be?, put me down for it."
I'm so excited I'm getting my operation on Thursday.
