Challenges facing baby boomers' retirement plans.

Bob Robbins received his electrical engineering degree in 1957 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY then continued his graduate studies at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. After a very successful career culminating as president of New England Microwave he joined Smith Barney in 1992. Bob has applied his analytical skills to wealth management and has some unique perspectives on what is happening and the hurdles we will need to overcome in order to retire. He will share those perspectives with us this Thursday as our guest speaker.
Community Meals
In the spirit of "Service Above Self" Haverhill Rotarians turned out in sizable numbers to serve community meals last Monday. Not only did we feed over 150 hungry people but this event also helped to feed our own hungary souls. We show up 4 times a year. As we look around the kitchen we also see vary familiar faces of people who are working every week doing the good work. Our community should be very thankful for the folks who are committed to this job every Monday night.

 HHS Interact Club
First Prize NeededThe Interact club is planning a fundraising raffle and are in need of a grand prize. Currently they have: Four tickets to Lowell Devils with autographed puck, Four tickets to Fisher Cats, Autographed pictures of Jason Varitek, Shawn Thornton, and Ray Bourque and UMASS/Amherst basketball tickets. If you have a pair of Bruins or Celtic tickets that you are willing to donate that would top off their prizes.
The club sent a few people to community meals, is sending donations of food and candy to soldiers overseas, planning to donate christmas gifts to an Emmaus house family, making plans to attend Disney's A Christmas Carol together and will assist us in ringing the bell for the Salvation Army's Kettle Drive next week. This club is sponsored by Haverhill Rotary and needs our support. Please contact Haverhill Rotarian Phil Brown if you can help.

District News
Download a copy of our district newsletter and keep up with what's going on. There are two conferences within driving distance of us that booth look interesting. The district conference will be at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine and the international conference will be in Montreal, Canada. Both great places to visit while experiencing Rotary outside the borders of Haverhill. Details are in the newsletter.

Santa Parade
For quite a few years my wife and I would take part in the annual VFW Santa Claus Parade in Bradford and Haverhill.
We have a 1931 Ford Model A Sedan that we restored in 1982. We would take part each year and go to the starting point for old cars in Bradford.
Then came the closure for rebuilding of the County Bridge in Haverhill. This was the favored route for the old car and us. We tried going by Route 495 but the old car is happiest at 38 MPH. So we tried going through Monument Square to get to Bradford from Atkinson. That was impassable because of large crowds. So we asked to have our name removed from the invite list at the VFW.
So for many years we didn't take part in the parade. Now comes Frank Novak, aka Mr. Enthusiasm and he invited us to again take part in the parade. The County Bridge is open again so getting to the Bradford starting point was a lot easier.
That was the most punctual starting parade that we have ever taken part in. Along the way we saw Police Chief and Rotarian Alan De Naro in his uniform looking resplendent. We saw so many Haverhill / Bradford friends along the way too and got lots of waves. Our car has a funny AH OOGA sounding horn which we sounded along the way. The kids were cute and the adults were too. A good time was had by all.
