Great showing tonight at Community Meals! Way to go everybody! One area that requires some attention is desserts. Apparently several Rotarians designated to bring desserts forgot. If you are one of those who did, can you let Bernie, Terry or I know why? Luckily, Heavenly Donuts bailed us out with double their usual number of dessert-type baked goods.
I was remiss in not mentioning in last week's Nairator the official presentation to our newly chartered Interact club of their own banner, bell and gavel. Thanks to the Haverhill Rotarians who made the time to be there: Megan Shea, Darlene Beal, Jim Vanderpol, Raleigh Buchanan, and Jon Miller, not to mention our host Phil Brown. I'm sorry if I missed anybody! Roger Bell, District Interact Committee Chairman, made the presentation.
In less than three weeks I depart with the District GSE Team to South Africa. I'll be gone for a month. If you're interested in meeting the rest of the team, there is a "bon-voyage" party on Monday evening, 6-8 PM, February 23rd at the Danversport Yacht Club. For that month, you'll be in the capable hands of Ira Korinow and Vin Bonanno.
Meanwhile, a similar team of four young professionals and their leader from South Africa are coming here to our district from April 18th to May 16th. Their four-week visit will include a comprehensive cultural and vocational experience throughout our district. The District's GSE Committee is looking for Rotarians to help ensure our international visitors are welcomed with Rotary fellowship, and that they meet to exchange info with professionals in their vocational fields. If you know of contacts or have related vocational experiences, please contact me, our Area Coordinator Christyne Vachon 310-854-9748 (Ipswich Club) or the District GSE Chair Joanne Travers 978-312-1200 (Topsfield Club).
Here are the vocational interests of each of the four GSE Inbound Team members:
University Programs in Music, Journalism, Chemical engineering and Retail Media
News Centers and Organizations
Acoustic and Music Engineering Firms
Retail and Import Establishments
The Team Leader is a Forensic Architect who deals with arbitrations and alternative dispute resolution in the construction industry.
See you Thursday!
John
Rotarians Serve 128 Meals
Thank you to everyone who helped with serving community meals Monday night. Haverhill Rotarians, served food, washed trays, collected trash, provided desserts and had a great time helping out 128 people at the Community Meals program held at the Haverhill Citizen's Center. Pictured from left is Haverhill Rotary Vice President Rabbi Ira Korinow, Haverhill YWCA Director Kick Fallon, Past President Cindy Ryan and Past President Jefferson Davis. In addition to helping out and providing desserts haverhill Rotary also donated $500.00 to help pay for the food provided. Special thanks to Pat Sagaras of Heavenly Donuts who donated an abundance of his delicious treats.

Not So Sweet Job Interview
Many times when I get to the dessert at the Rotary Club luncheon I think of a job
interview that I had read of one time.
After an interview in an office the candidate was also taken out for lunch by the interviewer.
The interview seemed to have gone alright and the lunch was going well.
When lunch was finished the interviewee started on the dessert, apple pie.
The company man saw him take the first piece from the pie from the front or point of the pie.
That did it, the person having the pie didn't get the job.
Why not? The company man figured that most people would start on the pie at the point and they wanted someone that didn't do the same thing as everyone else.
I hope that no one watches me when I get to the dessert at the Rotary meetings.

Speakers
Eric Lesniak, Director of group sales for the NH Fisher Cats, spoke to us at last week's lunch meeting. He emphasized that going to watch the Fisher Cats is not only about baseball but about fun family entertainment. They work hard to insure that the entertainment is fresh and fun for all ages. He brought with him some hats and tee shirts for us but also a wonderful donation of a luxury suite for 18 people to enjoy a Fisher Cats game.
