New Hampshire Fisher Cats

In 2008, the Fisher Cats celebrated their 5 year anniversary, as well as the 2008 Northeast Delta Dental Eastern League All-Star Game. The game featured the top players in the Eastern League, including the Fisher Cats own Travis Snider, who won the Irving Oil Home Run Derby. The game drew a record-setting crowd of 8,762. The 2008 season also marked the additions of the Ted Williams Hitters Hall of Fame as well as the Samuel Adams Bar & Grill to Merchantsauto.com Stadium. The Fisher Cats drew a total of 373,227 fans during the historic 2008 season. Eric Lesniak, director of group sales, will talk to us this week and let us know what is in store for the NH Fisher Cats this season.

We had a great first club-wide Rubber Duck Regatta organizing meeting last Thursday. I'm really grateful for how everybody started to pitch in thinking about how best to create a great event with lots of fun and fundraising potential. Jefferson, Diane, Sheryl and I had a good meeting with a representative of the Crescent Yacht Club on Thursday night. She is very excited about how the Yacht Club can help and is checking out a couple of potential dates. We should know more soon.
Thank you also for filling the pillow to help RI's polio efforts. We raised over $250 at last week's meeting! Did you know that the Gates Foundation just added another $255 million to it's original $100 million matching grant to Rotary? The new Gates Foundation grant does come with a challenge to raise another $100 million through Rotary worldwide, but this should be quite possible. Rotarians have reportedly already committed $60 million towards the original $100 million challenge. As I mentioned at last week's meeting, check out the non-fiction comic featuring "Amazing Stories of Polio!" in this month's issue of The Rotarian magazine. It's a very informative 16-page illustrated feature article that explores some of the history and science behind the disease and its eradication.

See February's issue for the full 16 page story.
I hope you can help out at next Monday's Community Meals. Thank you for all that you do!
See you Thursday!

Rotary International
I'll bet that a lot of you Rotarians have some interesting stories about having made makeup meetings at other clubs.
Quite a few years ago I became acquainted with a Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island Canada Rotary club member.
This friend introduced me to Members of Parliament, other Rotary Club members, and the Premier of Prince Edward Island. He has taken me to visit farmer friends and to his own farm too.
Whenever I visit his club I am also greeted by his friends and members at his club whether my friend is there or not.
My friend has many interests including antique cars and also politics. He is interested in the Liberal party (read; Democrat).
I have not yet told him that in the States I do Republican. (Canadian read; Conservative).
On a recent visit he introduced me to a man that was trying for the Leadership of the Liberal party.
Leader of the Party I believe is tantamount to becoming the Prime Minister if his party gets elected.
So I find that Rotary is International.
Prince Edward Island has 6 independent Rotary clubs. Two in Charlottetown
