April 28, 2009

After a great time in NYC with her fellow District exchange students, our Rotary Youth Exchange student Ana Gogua is next about to head off for Florida vacation with her host parents, Greg and Cindy Foucault and their family. That will surely give her another view of America.
Please remember that Community Meals is this coming Monday night, May 4th. Folks who are on the dessert list (included in this issue of the Nairator thanks to Terry Beaton), please be sure to do your part. Let's make Bernie proud!
Sheryl Meehan and I attended the District Assembly last week. I enjoyed learning about even more facets of this jewel called Rotary. To borrow another metaphor, I am repeatedly astonished by the variety of programs or tools that Rotary International offers us. This meeting I learned all about Ambassadorial Scholarships and Peace Fellowships. Family members of Rotarians cannot apply for either, but I know just the young person who might make a terrific Ambassadorial Scholar. The challenge of course is to learn about all of the tools so we can help Rotary make the best use of them.
This coming Friday our District's Inbound and Outbound Group Study Exchange(GSE) teams, will present about their journeys at the District Conference in Salem. Ira, Sheryl, Darlene, her husband Allan, Bill Adams, my wife Mary Jane and I will represent Haverhill. This past Sunday I accompanied both GSE Teams to lunch at Cheers, a performance of Blue Man Group and a Behind the Scenes Tour of Old North Church in the North End. What a weird juxtaposition! Almost as strange as some of those Fred MacDonald photos showing up lately here in the Nairator. The two teams of young people had a lot of fun. And it looks like Fred does, too!
See you Thursday!

Community Meals Monday May 4th
We will be serving community meals this coming Monday at the Haverhill Citizens Center. The following Rotarians are asked to bring desserts. If you are unable to bring a dessert please ask someone else to take your place or give Terry Beaton five dollars or so, so he can pick something up for you. Desserts should be brought between 4:00 and 4:30 PM.

NH Antique License Plate
In 1982 when we had finished restoring our 1931 Ford Model A Sedan it was time to register it.
Old cars can be registered with conventional license plates or Antique series plates. The Antique series plate have a crest of The Old Man of the Mountain on them. With either series of plate you may request initial type plates for an extra charge. We decided to register Antique and requested an initial type plate.
The first choice of course being the plain letter A. We also included ten other choices. My wife, being realistic, remarked that most of the antique cars were probably the Ford Model A and that the likelihood of that plate being available would be pretty small. But you never know.
What did we get? The plain letter A on an Antique series plate.
I'm telling you that good clean living pays off.
