Although there were only a handful of Rotarians from other clubs, I want to thank everyone who helped make the Group Study Exchange team from London welcome in Haverhill before, during and after the cluster meeting last Thursday. In addition to the Rotarians who were matched up with the GSE team's vocations for day of exchanging ideas and learning from each other, thanks also to Maryjane Cuneo for giving the GSE team a tour of the Harvard University campus on Tuesday. The entire visit went tickety-boo! Ta to you all!
The GSE team will also be at the District Conference at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine this coming weekend. John Cuneo will be present for some of the conference and will participate in a panel discussion on successful fundraising programs. Thanks, John, again for representing Haverhill Rotary and for sharing the success of our first Duck Race under your tutelage.
The District Conference is having a silent auction to which every club has been asked to contribute. Many thanks to Maurice Hatem and his nephew Bassam Geha, owners of Michaelšs Function Halls and the Phoenician Restaurant for contributing a $100 gift certificate to the silent auction.
Last week we began a new raffle - one week after Ken Smith won the jackpot of $542. Thank you, Ken, for your generosity in (almos) tithing back his winnings to the club.
I will not be at our Rotary meeting this Thursday. It is a major Jewish holiday - Shavuot. The holiday celebrates the Revelation at Mt. Sinai and the receiving of the Ten Commandments (Remember Charlton Heston?). It falls 50 days after the Festival of Passover and hence in the Christian community it is equivalent to Pentecost, which is observed by most Christians this coming Sunday, the 50th day after Easter. Julian Rich will fill in for me and have another "pre-season" practice at presiding over our club. I know the meeting is in good hands!
See you next week.
Rotarily Yours,
Ira
