District Governor Stephen May will be our guest speaker at this weeks meeting. Board of directors will meet with him at 11:30AM.
Using his military background along with the knowledge and experience gained over 32 years in law enforcement having served as a police officer, a Special Agent with the CID and retiring as a District Commander of the Conrail Police Department, Steve established the American Bureau of Investigation and was a tax practitioner. Over the years, Steve has been on the board or a member of the Licensed Private Detectives Association of Massachusetts, the United States Association of Professional Investigators, New England Council of State Investigators, the National Council of Investigation and Security Services, along with the New England Chiefs of Police Association, and a retired member of the Massachusetts Police Association. Steve is also a proud member of the Marine Corps Association and the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation. He attended Northeastern University, Penn State University and graduated from numerous police academies, supervisory, command and management courses.
Steve joined the Rotary Club of North Reading in 2003 and was immediately appointed to the board of directors, serving as president in 2006-07. He has been the club secretary, completed the Rotary Leadership Institute training, was appointed an assistant governor and assistant governor coordinator. He was awarded the Governors Citation for District 7930 along with being a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Paul Harris Society.
Steve realized early on that if he was going to be the District Governor, he would have to totally retire or at least semi-retire by the spring of 2010. In following with his plans, in May of 2010 he was able to put all of his business activities on the shelf. There by allowing him to donate all of his time and efforts to guide, as its District Governor, District 7930 as it "Builds Communities and Bridges Continents"

President's Message
Dear Rotarians,
I hope that my 2nd meeting as President was as energizing an experience for those in attendance as it was for me. Although I have some concerns about our collective singing ability, I am confident that we can more forward to improve the Haverhill Rotary experience and continue to be successful in our programs and projects, whether we are organizing a Duck Race, providing community meals or enjoying a speaker at our regular meetings.
As I indicated, at our Executive Board meeting on July 14th we spent most of our time together talking about the membership survey results. We are committed to responding to your concerns and recommendations so we can improve the quality and quantity of member participation. In the next weeks we plan on investigating and implementing a variety of changes which we hope will inspire our existing members and encourage others to join us.
Examples are:
Going back to table tickets to encourage and increase socialization.
Consideration of financial issues including meal costs, fines and fundraising.
Emphasizing Happy/Sad/Travel/Other dollars on a voluntary basis.
Activating the membership committee.
Improving communication, especially with less active (or former) members
Reviewing our current meeting space and meal arrangements.
I thank you in advance for your support, encouragement, generosity and participation and look forward to a productive and entertaining summer and beyond.
Julian

It's Time to Sell!
Adoption Papers are available for sales and distribution. If you have not yet received your packet plan on picking up adoption papers papers at this week's meeting.
Selling duck adoptions is really the primary activity of our major fund raiser. Please make your best effort to engage your friends and co-workers to participate. The five dollars spent on this race will yield them much better odds of winning than a five dollar lottery scratch ticket. And just think, the profits go to Rotary charitable activities instead of the government!
POP Sales In addition to your direct sales we are asking each Rotarian to ask the manager at a couple retail locations that you frequent, to allow you to place a small display of adoption papers for people to take with them. Every store will have different needs based on how they display their goods for sale so you need to be as accommodating as possible. It will be your responsibility to keep the location filled with adoption papers so each time you visit bring a small supply of papers with you to keep them displayed. We have available some cardboard displays that were supplied by Game. They only hold a few papers and will ned to be refilled frequently. We should be receiving new displays that will be able to hold additional adoption papers. If a retailer suggests they would be happy to display our adoption papers if we could supply a specific type of display. Let Jean Poth know. We will do our best to accommodate all requests. Please also contact Jean with the location of the retailers you will be handling.
Golfers How would you like to play a round of golf at The Renaissance Golf Club, The Haverhill Golf and Country Club, The Atkinson Country Club or Crystal Springs Golf course? Each of these establishments have generously donated a round of golf for a foursome as prizes for our duck race. It is possible that the person who wins would prefer a cash prize if they are not a golfer themselves. We are looking for four people to step up with offers to purchase these prizes as a cash alternative when prizes are awarded. Let Steven Goddu know how much you are willing to pay for the foursome of golf at the club of your choice. That amount will be offered to the prize winners as an alternative to the golf game. Highest bidders will prevail in the event that more than one person offers cash for the same prize. Please keep in mind that these golf courses have offered us prizes assuming that the recipients will show up at their course for a polite game of golf. If non-golfers win and show disrespect at their golf course we will likely not be given this prize in the future.
