District Governor Visit
Tom Ellion, District Governor of Rotary District 7930 will be our speaker this week. Tom has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Danvers since 1990 and is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow recipient. Tom serves as Rotary District Governor during 2008-2009. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Danvers Community YMCA since 1996, and will serve as president of the Board of Directors of the Danvers Community YMCA 2010-2012.
As we begin a new Rotary year we have a great deal of work ahead of us in 2008-2009. Thirty thousand children age five and younger die everyday around the world from preventable causes including poor nutrition, lack of clean water, adequate medical care and education.
2008-2009 Rotary International President D.K. Lee has asked that this year we continue our focus to improve Health, Hunger, Education and Clean Water specifically to help improve the mortality rate for children five years of age and younger.
There are many ways in which we can accomplish this goal. I have asked all Presidents in District 7930 to lead their clubs in exploring the vast opportunities available to us in partnering with a club or clubs in our district or somewhere in the world to identify and complete worthy projects that will help accomplish this goal. Once a project is identified, I have asked that these clubs apply for District Matching Grants through our Foundation Grants Committee and take advantage of the District Designated Funds that the district has to award in 2008-2009 as a result of the generous Annual Giving from our Rotarians in 2005-2006.
As I make my Official Governors Visit to your club, I look forward to meeting you and working with all Rotarian's in the Forty Seven Clubs that make up District 7930 in 2008-2009 as we "MAKE DREAMS REAL"!
July 22, 2008

This week our guest is District Governor Tom Elliott. DG Tom is our primary connection to Rotary International as a worldwide organization. He also has some great ideas about how the District organization can help all the clubs. I hope you will come, meet him, and give him a hardy Haverhill Rotary Club welcome. Haverhill Rotary Club officers, directors and anyone else interested in the business of the club, please come to Evenfall at 11:30AM to meet with Tom before the general meeting.
Speaking of the international portion of our organization, Mary Gale, the Club's Youth Exchange Coordinator is working hard to find host families for our next Youth Exchange Student, Ana, from Georgia (on the Black Sea between Russia and Turkey) speaks excellent English. Ana will arrive in late August and will be attending Haverhill High through May 2009. Mary is seeking three families, each to host Ana for approximately three months. If you or anyone you know may be interested, please contact Mary Gale or myself ASAP.
See you Thursday!
