Serving as a Nurse in India

Grace Martins, past President of the Rotary Club of Peabody, will discuss her recent trip to India serving those in need. Grace is a registered nurse with 30 years of experience in eldercare, healthcare education and, most recently, a food safety and sanitation consultant who specializes in helping the growing Brazilian population in Massachusetts.
Grace's life has been defined by her conviction to overcome any obstacle in order to be an inspiration to those she teaches and cares for. Grace emigrated from the Azores in 1977 and has made Peabody her home ever since. She is the Owner/Director of Martins Senior Home Care, which is licensed by the DOE and the department of public health. In her school, she helps women and men become self sufficient and begin a career in healthcare. She teaches those who struggle as she once did as a new immigrant.
Grace has received the prestigious Mary Upton Ferrin Award for her work with helping women in her community, for being a role model and having overcome many obstacles. She was nominated for business woman of the year and selected as the winner of the NSWIB Extreme Makeover. Mainly, Grace is proud of her work to help bring love and compassion to those less fortunate all over the world. She uses her gifts of nursing, mercy and compassion to care for and educate those in need.
Grace Martins will be our guest speaker this week and will speak about her experiences serving as a nurse in India.

President's Message
Dear Rotarians,
Thanks to District Governor Steve May (North Reading club), District Governor-Elect Subbiah "Swami" Duraiswami (Belmont) and Terri Kidder (Amesbury), Assistant District Governor, for their attendance and contributions at our last meeting. District Governor Steve discussed a variety of issues, including the District's participation in the Future Vision programs, grants, upcoming District 7930 programs and Rotary International goals. Our District can expect a great year from Steve and his administration, and we look forward to their continued involvement. Applause for Sheryl Meehan for organizing the program!
Regarding our recent Membership survey, we are moving forward as follows:
Harry Korslund has agreed to chair a Membership Task Force to review survey comments and implement a number of measures intended to improve recruitment and retention. He will be appointing members to the Task Force and will undoubtedly rely on the guidance of Frank Novak, Membership Chair. Thanks to Frank for bring a prospective member, Lee Graham, to our last meeting. Perhaps he can inspire others to do the same.
At our next meeting, we will go back to using table tickets, assigning members to specific tables to expand socialization. Thanks to Bonnie Michaleas for her help.
We have begun to review our meeting space and meal arrangements. Bill Klueber is working with me on this issue.
John Cuneo reported on the DUCK RACE plans. We are only six weeks away, so it is time to start quacking! I hope that all of you have received the DUCK RACE brochures and are developing a successful sales strategy. Speak to Steve Goddu, DUCK RACE Chair, or John Cuneo, with any questions or concerns.
Congratulations to Bill Adams for his 33 years as a Rotarian, including his service as our District Governor.
My apologies for a lengthy meeting last week. I hope to be able to end our meetings at 1:30, but sometimes there are circumstances beyond our control.
Best wishes to those dealing with and recovering from recent health issues, as well as best wishes to Rotarians who we hope to see at future meetings who have not recently participated.
Have you seen the latest ROTARIAN Magazine? An informed Rotarian could avoid a fine by at checking out the latest issue.
Contributions to the NAIRAITOR are encouraged. Please pass on any news to me or Steve Goddu

Point of Sale Locations
We need the community actively talking about the duck race and making adoptions. Please help by being responsible for at least one retail location. Pick someplace that you visit frequently and can easily stop by from time to time to make sure that the adoption papers are displayed.
Golfers How would you like to play a round of golf at The Renaissance Golf Club, The Haverhill Golf and Country Club, The Atkinson Country Club or Crystal Springs Golf course? Each of these establishments have generously donated a round of golf for a foursome as prizes for our duck race. It is possible that the person who wins would prefer a cash prize if they are not a golfer themselves. We are looking for four people to step up with offers to purchase these prizes as a cash alternative when prizes are awarded. Let Steven Goddu know how much you are willing to pay for the foursome of golf at the club of your choice. That amount will be offered to the prize winners as an alternative to the golf game. Highest bidders will prevail in the event that more than one person offers cash for the same prize. Please keep in mind that these golf courses have offered us prizes assuming that the recipients will show up at their course for a polite game of golf. If non-golfers win and show disrespect at their golf course we will likely not be given this prize in the future.
Duck Race Committee meeting this Thursday before lunch at 11:30AM. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Past President Ira is Out in Left Field
Ira and Gail Korinow are pictured in front of Safeco Field as they attended last Thursday's 13 inning Seattle Mariners vs. Boston Red Sox game. Ira wanted everyone to take note that he was wearing his Haverhill Rotary baseball cap. Do you smell travel dollars?
