Haverhill Rotarians End-of-Summer Social

Last week's sign-up sheets for our Rotary Social seemed to disappear! Only a few signed up and some of the rest of the pages were nowhere to be found! So we'll try again one more time this Thursday. Here's the basic info again: We'll gather on Sunday, August 24th starting at 1 PM at Pam Carr's house, 58 Atlanta Street, Haverhill. It is off Hilldale Avenue, just a little short of where it crosses over 495 and goes on towards Garrison Golf. Rotarians and their family members, including the kids, are invited. It will be "pot luck." Anybody interested in grilling? Think about whether you want to bring a main dish, appetizer, salad or dessert. You don't have to wait until Thursday to let us know. In fact, it would be helpful and courteous to Pam if you would reply ASAP and tell whether you are coming, how many if you are, and what dish you'd like to bring. Please respond to me at jcuneo@communityactioninc.org.

If it rains, we'll cancel or look for a rain date in September. I realize this is a busy time of year for many. If you can join us, great! If not, please come to the next event.

Ana from Georgia - progress!

Last week, we had located two host families, but Ana was having trouble getting her visa approved in the midst of the turmoil in Georgia. Meanwhile, at least three families have volunteered to help fill in early openings in the schedule of her visit here. Just today, Mary Gale, Haverhill Rotary's Youth Exchange Officer, reported to me that Ana's visa was apparently approved! Now we are awaiting her travel plans and schedule. Stay tuned!

If you think you have a spare bedroom for a few days over the next nine to ten months that you would be willing to offer to a responsible 17 year old with leadership skills, please let Mary or me know. We want to make sure we are fully ready to support our host family volunteers.

Also, I mentioned last week we are still seeking a third host family for more than just a week. Turns out we may have the third host family! So, stay tuned to hear from Mary Gale soon. Meanwhile, keep asking around and store up names of families that may be interested until we know for sure. And then there is always next year, or an inbound GSE Team from South Africa next spring that may need help.

Duck Race Organizers Schedule Conference Call with Duck...err, GAME

The conference call with Megan, a representative of GAME, Inc., the organization which supports over 200 duck race "funraisers" annually all over the US and some foreign countries, will occur this Thursday at my office, 145 Essex Street, at 3 PM, after our Thursday lunch meeting. We will meet briefly before the call and again for a bit after the call to discuss what we learn, as well as next steps. Although not everyone can speak during the call, you are certainly welcome to attend, help plan the call, listen and participate in discussion afterwards. Please just RSVP to me if you plan on joining us.

Other stuff...

Beware! Chandler is not only back at the keyboard, but planning mischief (with me)!

Thanks to all who turned out for Community Meals this week. We fed over 150 people. We can't do it without your help! It was another solid Rotarian showing. One thing, tho', don't be late! You should've been next to Bill Adams and Bernie Clohisy as they bantered about Bill arriving a tad late to pour the milk. Wow!

Thanks also to all the Paul Harris Fellows who turned out to honor and surprise Leo Ouellette at his home with a Paul Harris Fellow award several weeks ago. It was great to see it in the Gazette last week, including a splendid picture. Congratulations, Leo!

See you all Thursday, I hope!
